My Experience With Home Renovations and Plumbers

Most plumbers are hard workers and they are honest. They provide a service that is of high quality, but sometimes there are plumbers who do not do their best. When there are a few bad apples in the bunch, then this can affect any plumber’s reputation, regardless if they are a good plumber or a bad one.

The sad truth is plumbers tend to attract more bad press than any other trade. At least that’s the case when it comes to repairing old stuff or installing new equipment.

The Good

In 1987, we had a daughter living at home and we also had a new baby and needed to do something about our living space. We needed to expand it, and eventually we came to the conclusion that we needed an extension built. My businesses was doing good and the build was going to cost us around $50,000. The first priority was to find the best company possible. I thought I had this one nailed because I consulted a member who belonged to the sports club I belonged to. This was actually a mistake.

In all actuality, the experience was horrible and I was let down because I didn’t get what I expected. However,  a guy with a monkey wrench, a blow torch and a little bit of copper pipe showed up. He actually saved the entire day and his work was amazing. Not only that, but he was friendly and very professional.

The Bad

A few years passed, and I decided to purchase another home. This was an investment, but it needed to be refurbished. I made the mistake of arranging the labor force.

There was a racecourse nearby, and that was where the builder spent a lot of his time. Supposedly he was looking over his plans. Meanwhile, the electrician disappeared, while the plasterer frequently forgot where he was working. Not only that, but the plumbers I had hired really didn’t know what they were doing and it looked as if they had never even touched a boiler.

Accident Prone

Eventually I did things right and managed to find a good building company. They were able to perform the restoration work, but I did spend more money than I intended to. However, it was well worth it. The owner of the company was amazing and the people he employed had plenty of experience. The plumber was also nice and extremely professional.

If there’s anything you can take away from my experience, it is to take the time to find a reputable plumber in your area. Trust me, it is worth taking your time because the last thing you want is to experience what I experienced. Lucky for you, there are three things you can do to ensure you don’t run into the problems I ran into.

First, don’t organize everything on your own. This is especially the case when it comes to the plumbing labor. Unless you have experience with hiring tradesmen and firing them, then don’t do this on your own.

Second, do the research. This means ask people in your neighborhood or the pubs you visit. Don’t forget to ask family and co-workers too. They can usually tell you where to go to find a good labor force.

Third, always get a few quotes from plumbers. Don’t jump aboard the cheapest quote because this isn’t always the smartest move to make. Plus, it can result in something disastrous. If you do the research and get quotes, then you’ll be fine.

Ideas for a Bathroom Renovation

Bathrooms are seen by some as simply a functional room where one spends as little time as necessary, whereas others want their bathrooms to be aesthetically pleasing places of refuge and comfort. Tired, older bathrooms can be remodeled and re-equipped within a very reasonable budget for those in the first group. However, if you want a bathroom a queen would be comfortable in, well… you don’t actually have to have the finances available to royalty, but your options are unlimited.
